The Tower Restaurant is located on the top floor of the Scottish Museum. Its visual appeal is apparent to anyone who has ventured up the lift, with its modern lines and use of strong colours, it gives the appearance of ultra-modern restaurant in an ancient city.
I, personally, feel the restaurannt is a disappointment. The staff were courteous, the food was good, but it was too 'safe'. That is not to say the ingredients were below standard, far from it, but the dishes were unimaginative, and to my tastes, bland. If the idea is to appeal to all tastes, they more than likely have achieved their goal, as you can take your mother and know she wouldn't complain about it being too spicy or too different!
Tthe diversity of dishes was good. I started with the Smoked Duck with Tomato and Tarragon Sauce. Sarah had the Sushi with Pickled Vegetables. Both were visually very pleasing, even if we felt that they lacked the infusion that the description seemed to suggest. The mains consisted of Seared Tuna with Ruffle Basil Salad for Sarah and I had a Fillet of Angus Beef. Again I found the food wasn't adventurous enough for my palate.
Overall, I would say the restaurant serves food suited to those whom like their food safe from too much spice or adventure. I would say the staff were professional, and though we had one bad experience with an off-hand manager, the restaurant is what it is, which is a restaurant aimmed at the tourist market.
