There has been a Thai restaurant on the corner of Sydney Street and Fulham Road for years. When we lived in Chelsea, many years ago, we would go there as a treat. The restaurant was call P & J, if my memory serves me correctly. Well, when we were back we wanted to try the new restaurant that has both rave reviews and the most damming comments of any restaurant we have researched.

Spending half our time in Australia, we have been to a lot of very good Thai restaurants, so going to Patara, which is a chain, was a bit of a worry. So many chain restaurant ventures start out with good intentions, but fail to keep the standards as more restaurants open. Well, we are pleased to say that this is not the case here. The staff were courteous and polite, and the food was excellent.

For starters, we had Tod Mun Pla - Goong, which was Thai fish cakes and prawn cakes, and Kanom Beung DIY, which is discribed as Thai tacos with chicken and prawns. Both these dishes were delicious and very tasty.

For mains, we had Pad Poa Teak, a mélangle of seafood in a piquant chilli and lemongrass sauce. The other main was Gang Hung Lae Osso buco, which is a Northern Thai curry, which is very different from the normal Thai dishes on menus in London. Additionally, we had a side dish of Pad Makua Yao, a dish of Thai long aubergine suatéed in a yellow bean sauce and sweet basil.

Yes, there are issues with space, but is it the fault of the restaurant? We had great service and fantastic food. Well worth a go.
