http://www.martin-wishart.co.ukLocated in Leith, Restaurant Martin Wishart is the only Michelin Star restaurant in Edinburgh. Being so, you would assume the restaurant would be full of itself, but you would be wrong. When we went there, we found the staff to be professional, but friendly, a welcome change from some restaurants we could name.
We had high expectations about the food, as we had read so many positive reviews from the local press and food guides. Sarah's started was Ravioli of lobster garnished with fennel and champagne velouté and caviar. Certainly no questioning why they have won their 'Star', it was very good. I ordered the Warm paté of turbot and salmon wrapped in a herb crèpe and langoustine cream. It, too, was excellent.
Our starters certainly exceeded our expectation, and we eagerly waited for our mains. I went for the Sole "Murat", glazed fillet of lemon sole with baby onions, artichoke, parsley and lemon, served with pommes Cocotte. Very classic French, and cooked to perfection. Sarah's Fillet of halibut and glazed pigs trotter with confit tomato, braised endive, pomme Galette and sauce Gribiche was exquisite, perfectly balanced in taste and texture.
It is easy to see why they are proud of their Michelin Star. (Two may be more appropriate!) The food is excellent, with real effort to promote the taste of the ingredients. It's certainly is worthy of the high prasie that it received.
